Small Business Environmental Stewardship Award Nomination Questions 

The nominator should address the following points:

  1. Explain how the business worked with a local, state/territorial, or national SBEAP.  (Required for eligibility) (5 points)
     

  2. What activities did the business undertake to go above and beyond environmental compliance regulations?  Describe.  What results were achieved?  (Can they be quantified?  If so, give examples.) (25 points)
     

  3. What did the business do that changed the environmental footprint of the business or the community?  Did the business change the character or composition of their waste to render it less toxic or hazardous?  Did the business implement activities or processes that minimized the consumption of natural resources such as water, energy, or forest products?  Be specific and provide outcomes (e.g., reduced sulfur dioxide emissions by 250 tons per year, totally removed 500 gallons of perchloroethylene from use, restored 4,500 acres of riparian buffer). (25 points) 
     

  4. Explain how the activities of the business were innovative.  Were the activities replicated (or can they be) by others in the industry? (20 points)
     

  5. Describe how the business conducted activities that earned them recognition in the community as a leader and/or role model in the area of environmental performance.  Did the activities have environmental education benefits?  If so, to whom? (25 points)
