Center for Applied Rural
Innovation (CARI) -- University of Nebraska (Lincoln) center that

CleanerSolutions
Database -- The CleanerSolutions Database
links performance evaluations to specific
testing parameters and environmental assessments
based on the testing performed at the Toxic Use
Reduction Institute's Surface Solution
Laboratory (SSL). SSL was designed with
the capability to evaluate the effectiveness of
different cleaning chemistries and equipment for
a variety of substrates and contaminants.
The goal of SSL is to assist industry in the
search for safer cleaning processes by
developing and promoting safer alternatives to
hazardous solvents with a special focus on
aqueous/semi-aqueous cleaners and
state-of-the-art surface cleanliness analyses.
CleanGredients -- Online database of
institutional and industrial (I&I) cleaning
ingredients, a one-stop-shop for green

Program -- U.S. EPA program that encourages coal mines to recover

Coating
Alternatives Guide -- Web-based pollution prevention tool for small-
and medium-sized paints and coatings businesses and technical assistance
providers at federal and state levels. Provides recommendations on
low-VOC/low-HAP alternative coating technologies that can be used to
meet regulations or to better performance. Developed by the
Pollution Prevention Program at Research Triangle Institute in

Earth 911 --
Public/private partnership with U.S. EPA, all 50 states, and
organizations and companies. Provides community specific
environmental information such as the locations of recycling centers for
oil, batteries, and other recyclables. The site includes general
information such as small business recycling tips, news updates, and

Electronic Product
Environmental Assessment Tool (EPEAT) -- System to help purchasers
in the public and private sectors evaluate, compare, and select desktop
computers, notebooks, and monitors based on their environmental
attributes. EPEAT provides a clear and consistent set of
performance criteria for the design of products, and provides an
opportunity for manufacturers to secure market recognition for efforts
to reduce the environmental impact of its products.
Energy Efficiency and
Renewable Energy (EERE) -- U.S. DOE comprehensive source for energy
efficiency and renewable energy information. Online library
offers news and information about energy conservation methods and
technologies.
Energy Savers --
U.S. government web site providing information on saving energy in
homes, businesses, vehicles, and industrial plants. Resources are
linked across federal agencies for homeowners, contractors and builders,
building managers, realtors, state agencies, drivers and fleet managers,
and industry managers.
Energy Star --
Voluntary partnership between U.S. DOE, U.S. EPA, product manufacturers,
local utilities, and retailers. Partners promote efficient
products by labeling with the logo and educating consumers. Also
offers other voluntary programs that promote energy efficiency, reduce
air pollution, and save money for businesses.
Environmental
Accounting Project -- U.S. EPA voluntary program to encourage and
motivate businesses to understand the full spectrum of their
environmental costs, and integrate these costs into decisionmaking.
Environmental Sustainability Resource Center --
U.S. EPA center providing pollution prevention support to the states in
Regions III and IV. Provides access to fact sheets, technical
reports, case studies, and videotapes, as well as state program
information and highlights and industry sector information.
Environmentally
Preferable Purchasing (EPP) -- The EPP Database was launched in 1999
in response to customer demand for a one stop shop for environmental
information on products and services the federal government buys.
The database contains over 130 local, state, and federal contract and
policy specifications, 523 product environmental performance
standards/guidelines, 25 lists of products identified as "green" by
other organizations, and 155 links to additional useful information on
products and services.
EPPnet --
The EPPnet listserv was established by the Northeast Recycling Council,
Inc. (NERC) in 1998. EPPnet links federal, state, and local
environmental officials; and private procurement specialists charged
with purchasing green products and services and developing policies for
the procurement of these products. EPPnet is intended to provide
subscribers with quick access to information, such as product
specifications, vendors of particular products, pricing, and strategies
to achieve recycled product procurement goals and federal procurement
policies.

-- Partnership between government agencies (USDA Cooperative State
Research, Education and Extension Service, USDA Natural Resources
Conservation Service, and U.S. EPA) and private businesses to prevent
pollution on farms, ranches, and in homes using confidential
environmental assessments. Issues that can be addressed with
Farm*A*Syst include: quality of well water, new wells, and
abandoned wells; livestock waste storage; storage and handling of

Calculator quantifies the projected

It is designed to forecast the environmental

involved in the routine interior cleaning of an
office building. This tool also enables
users to identify which green cleaning measures
will have the greatest impact in reducing their

Green Power
Partnership -- Voluntary government-industry program supported by
U.S. EPA. Partners in the program pledge to switch to green power
for a portion of their electricity needs within one year. In
return, EPA provides technical assistance and public recognition.
Green power is electricity generated by renewable energy sources
including solar, wind, water (hydro), geothermal, biomass (combustion of
organic materials), and biogas (combustion of naturally-produced
methane). The web site includes information about what green power
is, the green power market, joining the partnership, green power

Green Star --
Nonprofit organization that encourages businesses, schools, and
government agencies to incorporate techniques of waste reduction, energy
conservation, and pollution prevention in their places of business.

-- Health Care Without Harm is an international coalition of hospitals

Illinois Sustainable Technology
Center -- The Illinois Sustainable Technology Center (ISTC) is a
Division of the Institute of Natural Resource Sustainability at the
University of Illinois. ISTC is a change agency that performs

practices, technology, and systems that improve sustainability.
The ISTC has been providing assistance to Illinois businesses and the
public since 1985, including sophisticated analytical laboratory

(MIRT) -- The MIRT network brings

Waste Minimization -- The Waste Minimization National Plan

PBT Profiler -
Persistent, Bioaccumulative, and Toxic Profiles Estimated for Organic
Chemicals On-Line -- Designed to be an easy to use, widely
available, no-cost tool to screen chemicals lacking experimental data in
order to help identify pollution prevention opportunities. This is
a continuation of U.S. EPA's Office of Pollution Prevention and Toxics
(OPPT) Pollution Prevention Assessment Framework.
Peaks to Prairies--
Pollution Prevention Information Center (Networking Pollution Prevention
Programs in EPA Region 8) -- Region 8 pollution prevention web page

Environmental Stewardship Program (PESP) -- Broad effort by U.S.

Tribal P2 -- The National

areas. Greenscapes participants are either partners (businesses

manufacturing practices, outreach, metrics, continuous improvement,

-- EPA's Partnership for Sustainable Healthcare
(PSH) evolved from the agency's previous
partnership program, Hospitals for a Healthy
Environment. In February 2006, the
original EPA parternship became a fully

eliminating mercury waste from health-care
